Saathi Sanga Manka Kura Publications, which publishes a quarterly central magazine, Manka Kura, and five monthly regional bulletins, is an offshoot of the radio program Saathi Sanga Manka Kura.
Manka Kura Magazine
Manka Kura is a quarterly central magazine published by Equal Access Nepal with the initiation of Saathi Sanga Manka Kura and it’s Radio Listeners’ Clubs. It is a developmental magazine and its target group is rural to semi-urban youth. The core content touches role of youth in politics, self-awareness, social issues, education, capacity building, health, entertainment and sports. Some of the regulars include an advice column by SSMK Team Leader Binita Shrestha, update on various listeners’ club activities, quiz, crossword puzzle and patra sahitya (letter literature).
Regional Bulletins
SSMK Publications also publishes five monthly bulletins, one from each developmental region of the country: Hamra Kura (Eastern), Pratibimba (Central), Saathi (Western), Manko Majheri (Mid-western) and Jaagaran (Far-western). The central magazine being published from Kathmandu, the aim of these bulletins is to make SSMK listeners more participatory at a regional level as well as to build their capacity in the field of publishing. Regional bulletins are encouraged to produce content that reflect communities of their own developmental region so that it can be shared with other listeners’ clubs from other regions of the country.
Printing and Distribution
You can get your copy of Manka Kura Quarterly from news stands near you at a nominal price of NRs. 10. The magazine is distributed inside the Kathmandu valley and in Biratnagar, Birgunj, Narayangadh, Pokhara and Nepalgunj. Registered Saathi Sanga Manka Kura Listeners’ Clubs and contributors to the magazine get a free copy. You can also subscribe to the magazine at a subsidized price. Manka Kura is a developmental magazine covering a wide range of social and political issues.
