MODEL YOUTH RECONCILIATION TRAINING: "Youth Leadership for peace and reconciliation in Nepal"

A capacity building session:

To enhance the capacity and quality of leadership skill among young people, Saathi Sanga Manka Kura (SSMK) with the support of UNDEF had conducted the 13 days "youth Leadership for peace and reconciliation in Nepal" Masters training of trainers (MTOT) and refresher in two phases at Kathmandu and Gaindakot.

Recently conducted a refresher training of 6 days from 23rd May to 27th May 2008 at Vijay development Resource Centre, Gaindakot to 35 competitive youths were selected through set criteria, which comprises of 17 and 18 male (5dalit, 7 janajati and 1 Madhesi). Rita Khatiwada and Jagdish Dahal were the trainers as well as previous MTOT participants Lal Bahadur B.K, Harimaya Thanet and Shankar Bishwakarma were the co- trainers of the training. Training was mainly focused on conflict analysis, conflict transformation, methods of conflict transformation, reconciliation, tools of reconciliation, roles of justice in reconciliation, interlink between CA and reconciliation and facilitation skills.

Training objectives were as follows:
1. Aware on reconciliation and able to promote peace
2. To be aware on different International and national reconciliation practices and able to replicate it.
3. Sharing on the local methods of reconciliation practices being happened at different community.
4. Planning for conducting cascading training and small level reconciliation activity at their individual community.

In previous, Equal Access Nepal conducted MTOT on "Youth leadership for peace and reconciliation in Nepal" from 23rd April 2007 to 1st May 2007 in Gaindakot and refresher training from 27th Nov to 1st Dec 2007 to 33 participants from all over the five development regions. Training was facilitated by International resource person Silas Everett and national trainer Bishnu Bhusal. With the demand and the outstanding output of the previous series of training, organize a similar kind of training.

Subsequently to the training 17 participants had already cascade the learning of the training at their respective places. Through the cascading training 528 participants were aware and acquired knowledge on peace and reconciliation. 70 proposals have been received through MTOT, cascading and other sources.

In future, rest of the 18 participants are preparing to conduct a cascading training at their community level and also they are trying to utilize their learning to facilitate the trainings organized by other organization.
